Exploring Ethics and AI-Assisted Writing – International Workshop at FJWU

On May 15, 2025, Dr. Ammar Younas had the honor of speaking at the One-Day International Workshop on “Integration of AI in Academic Research,” organized by the Department of Law, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with ORIC.

His session, titled “Ethics, Responsible AI Use, and Data Privacy in AI-Assisted Academic Writing,” addressed timely and uncomfortable questions:

  • What happens when AI writes better than us—but we stop learning?

  • Should AI be used to equalize academic outcomes, even if it erodes skills?

  • Can ethics be programmed when values are culturally shaped?

Dr. Younas introduced a three-tier academic integrity model for AI-assisted writing and reimagined the classic Trolley Problem for the ethics of academic research in the algorithmic age.

The session was part of an interdisciplinary event featuring speakers including Dr. Jo Chitlik (Emory Law) and Dr. Shaheryar Naveed (FJWU).
